Bali: Airport Taxi: Fares & Information
For up to 3 people travelling together, it's cheaper to use the taxi, as long as the luggage fits into the boot/trunk.
The rates are fixed (non negotiable) and are point to specific point prices, therefore if your hotel is a number of meters away from that specific point then you may be asked to pay an additional cost.
It is possible to ask to have the taxi meter turned on but to do this will incur a % surcharge which in about 99% of cases will make the fare equivilant to the fixed rate cost and in some cases, particularly if you run into traffic during the journey, make the fare more expensive than the fixed rate price.
There is no surcharge for a midnight transfer as the drivers have a different working shift.
Early morning arrivals at the airport have in the past experienced some price gouging for fares, if you are arriving very early (before 5am) it is usually better to pre arrange an airport pick up with a reliable driver or your accommodation to avoid this.
The guys in blue patterned shirts are the taxi drivers. Anyone else who offers to help you with your bags will ask to be paid for assisting you with your luggage and may not be taxi drivers.
Beware of solicitors of illegal transport, who usually meet you outside the arrival hall. They probably do not have the licence to take the tourists around and they are not covered by insurance or they may be private drivers who have just brought the tourist or their employers to the airport and are looking for extra income to take somebody else out of the airport.
